The Best Game Ever

The best game ever played on the face of this planet is college football. No other sport is as exciting and action packed as football. However, college football is even better than other levels of football, such as professional and high school. Professional football is all about the players, and that gets pretty annoying. The players are always whining and complaining that they don't get paid enough or aren't getting enough playing time and want to be traded to another team. In high school, football can be slow paced and doesn't draw quite a crowd as compared to collegiate level football. But oh mama, college football is the flippin' bee's knees. The game is fast paced and all the players are in the prime of their athletic career. Players are playing for the love of the game and for the honor of their school, they're not concerned about money or other material gains. College football has glory of underdog teams upsetting the higher ranked teams, and trick plays that amaze everyone and make them watch them again and again. How come you never see quarterbacks scrambling around in the NFL and making astounding plays? Because they are too afraid they'll get hurt and see a smaller number on their paycheck. Even the crowds at a college football game can't be rivaled. These football games are filled with students, alumni, and just random fans who are all jumping up and down and cheering for the team. College football even creates a sense of community to those who are attending and have attended the university. Football games are a way for alumni to return to their alma mater and continue to cheer and root for their team. All that has been mentioned above is why college football is hands down the best game that God ever blessed society with.

My Writing Process

What is Reality?

Reality is what the world perceives as real and factual. It is people, objects, and events that happen in the world that can affect our lives. It is also the conscious experiences that people have with the world. However, chapter 14 of Envision In Depth describes how a person’s view on the reality of the world can be influenced or changed based on moments captured by photography. A good example from my Biological Sciences class is a picture of a crippled man on the side of the road in Africa. The whole class reacted with sympathy and pity towards the man. Our professor then went on to describe how the man had been crippled on purpose by another individual so the crippled man could beg and receive money from people passing by that felt sorry for him. This shows how the reality of the situation is a man was purposely crippled so he could easily earn money, yet the world’s knowledge of the situation makes them believe that the man is poor and was unfortunately crippled in his life. While reality is what is true in the world, sometimes the truth is hard to find or is obscured by a single moment captured by a picture.

Nike Just Doing It

Nike advertisements are everywhere so I figured it would be the perfect place to start when looking for an ad that contained a lot of rhetoric. This ad just about hit the jackpot when it comes to rhetoric and being persuasive. The ad puts across a very gender stereotypical message, one that could almost be considered homophobic. The ad says, "The only thing worse than going to the ballet is going to the ballet to watch your son." The author of the ad tries to convince the audience that their sons should never take part in ballet or any kind of dance. The author thinks that boys dancing is a disgrace and is an awful thing to watch. The pictures of the cleats and goalie underneath the phrase indicate that boys should play soccer instead of being involved in a ballet. Also the small slogan in the bottom corner of the page that says "Raise A Champ[ion]" tries to persuade the audience that their son won't be a champion if he plays ballet or does other activities not typically done by boys. The advertisement creates a sense of pride in those whose sons play soccer, or any other sport most likely, because they are considered champs. However, the ad creates a feeling of disgrace and shame in people who have a son that does ballet.

About Me

My name is Austin Ferguson and I am from Greer, South Carolina. I plan on majoring in Architecture because I'm really interested in design, buildings, and construction. I enjoy playing any sport and being with my friends. I guess you could call me a country boy because I have lived in the south all my life and I love college football, southern food, sweet tea, hunting, and fishing. I'm filled with southern pride and will stand up and defend it anytime someone tries to cross me. Any time of the year you can find me by a lake or pond fishing for bass, and in the fall your best chance of finding me is looking in a dove field or in a tree stand. I'm so excited to be at Clemson and I am looking forward to spending my next four years here.
